COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FUNGAL NAIL INFECTION

Depending on the type of fungus, symptoms may vary. Some of the common symptoms of fungal toe nail infection are thickening of toenails, discoloration of the toenails to yellow, brown, gray or black, falling of nail, accumulation of smelly debris under the nail, brittle, crack of nails & change in shape, appearance of spots on the sides of nail and even pain in toes. Due to the infection the surrounding toe skin becomes red, itchy or swollen and gives pain. If you wear tight shoes then the possibility of nail infection increases.

The best way to prevent this infection is to wear shoes that fit properly. There should be enough space between end of the shoe & tip of the longest toe. Nail infections are more common in people who live in hot or humid climates because warm, wet places are favorable for fungus to grow. Nail infection increases the discomfort and makes it hard to walk properly. The important thing that you can do to protect the nail from infections is to protect the nail from injuries.
